Frank & Joce got engaged during six weeks of
tramping in New Zealand, were married at the Outdoor Education Centre
where Joce worked in 2001, spent their honeymoon biking across Canada
and are currently working and playing in and around Munich, Germany.
Their playgrounds are situated whereever they can get to cheaply (thanks
to airlines such as Ryanair, that covers some fun parts of Europe) and
their toys include mountain bikes set up for touring, skis set up for
the backcountry and, of course BIG BOOTS.
After
bagging a B.Sc. in Biology/ Environmental Science, Joce continued on to
study Environmental Technology to confirm her dislike of being cooped
up in a lab or waste treatment facility. After her studies, she entered
the workforce full-time as a Compliance Officer with the Canadian
Government and part-time as an Outdoor Education Instructor. But after
two years, inflicted by a vicious strain of the adventuring bug,
Joce moved abroad with Frank and is now teaching English in Europe.
And, although she's the instructor, she's also living and loving
the daily lessons on cultural diversity, international relations,
geography and outdoor recreation at the School of Life (Munich Campus).
Born in the flatlands of Southwestern Ontario,
it's a wonder that Frank feels most at home in the mountains. Luckily,
he got a degree that's portable (Computer Science) so he coupled this
with his fluency in German to take him closer to the European Alps.
He searched for and found a job close to Munich, Germany and in January
of 2002, he and Joce moved to another playground. When not playing
in the Great Outdoors, Frank works as a software developer, frequently
updates his extensive knowledge on avalanche, ski and bike trivia,
plays Iron Chef in the kitchen, taste tests the wide variety of European
beer and wine, researches maps, buries his head in the Atlas and enjoys
life in a positive light to the fullest.
