For us, biketouring is the #1 way to take in a mix of a country's landscape and culture. During a tour, you're not travelling so fast that you can't look around and enjoy the scenery. You can set your own pace and take in the views. You can even stop at that cool looking waterfall or take an impromptu dip in a lake. The necessity for the biketourer to find basic needs (food, lodging, bike repair shop) means that he/she has to interact with people all around them. And we've found that wandering around with bikes loaded with saddlebags draw friendly and curious people to start conversations with you.
